2026 Scholarship Opportunity
Calling all Madison County, KY seniors: we are now accepting applications for the 2026 ESLAWKY Scholarship. This scholarship invites students to address critical road safety issues. We will award $1,000 each to two recipients, one from Northern schools (Madison Centraland Model) and one from Southern schools (Madison Southern and Berea Community). Applicants can choose an issue from the provided list for their video or written essay.
ISSUES
Please select one of the issues provided as your essay topic. Each issue offers examples for elaboration. If you have alternative perspectives on the issue, don’t hesitate to explore them. We highly encourage your creativity.
- Drunk and impaired driving: Discuss actions following an accident with a drunk driver, bystander responsibilities, ride planning, drunk driving consequences, and emphasize why driving under the influence is unacceptable.
- The use of cellphones while driving: Examine distracted driving hazards and ways passengers can help curb cellphone use while driving, and delve into safety features like Do Not Disturb.
- Speeding: Raise her voice against speeding, spotlighting recent statistics from credible sources, and analyzing the repercussions of excessive speed.
VIDEO ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
If you choose to submit a video essay, please adhere to these requirements:
- You may submit up to three (3) videos addressing one of the provided issues, each lasting 15 to 60 seconds.
- Specifically, videos should be formatted in a 9×16 aspect ratio and saved as a .mp4 or .mov.
- Incorporate a call to action in each video (e.g., “Don’t drink and drive”).
- Create original content, and ensure the presence of consenting parties. Animated content is welcome, and your creativity is encouraged.
WRITTEN ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
For those opting for a written essay, please submit a two (2)-page, double-spaced essay addressing one (1) of the three (3) issues mentioned above.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 24, 2026
This is a two-step application process.
Step 1: Submit the application using the Google Form at the link provided.
Step 2: After submitting the application, email Landry (landryluxonconsulting@gmail.com) with the required supporting documentation, including:
- your video attachment/link, or
- written essay in WORD/PDF format
- and proof of GPA
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the 2026 ESLAWKY $1,000 Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Graduating in May of 2026 in Madison County, KY (Madison Central, Model, Madison Southern, or Berea Community).
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Attending an accredited four (4) year university.
